IoT-Based Energy Data Acquisition System for the Coal Industry

Published: 2026-07-10 11:32:27
A company engaged in coal washing and processing has long relied on manual meter reading and data entry to compile water, electricity, natural gas, and coal production data into its central management system. This approach has resulted in high energy consumption, numerous blind spots, and overly coarse management practices—posing serious obstacles to the company's goal of building a green, intelligent factory. To address these challenges, the company requires the deployment of a visualized energy management system capable of metering, monitoring, and managing energy data across water, electricity, natural gas, and coal, ultimately improving energy efficiency and management standards.

To meet this need, WideIOT offers an integrated hardware-plus-software solution combining energy data acquisition gateways with an energy management platform.
1. Device Layer – Energy metering is performed by various instruments, including multi-function power meters in substation distribution cabinets, flow meters on the main intake pipe of deep-well pumps, flow meters at the natural gas inlet, and weighing instruments at the end of automated production lines.
2. Transmission Layer – WideIOT WG581 energy data acquisition gateways are deployed to connect to all energy meters, collecting real-time data on water, electricity, natural gas consumption, and coal output. The data is then transmitted via 4G networks to the energy management platform hosted on cloud servers.
3. Platform Layer – The energy management platform, deployed on cloud servers, provides visualization, monitoring, alerting, control, and statistical analysis of energy data, delivering comprehensive and reliable data support for energy management operations.

Key Features

1. Visual Energy Dashboard – Provides an at-a-glance overview of total plant-wide energy consumption, breakdowns by energy type, real-time status and data from individual meters, and consumption trends. Accessible remotely via both mobile and desktop devices.

2. Rule-Based Calculations – Enables monitoring of enterprise-level economic indicators such as total industrial output value per unit of energy and industrial value-added per unit of energy. It also correlates production output with energy consumption to reflect real-time production efficiency and energy performance.

3. Flexible Alarm Rules – Customizable alert rules promptly notify responsible managers of energy anomalies or equipment faults via WeChat, SMS, or email, allowing for rapid fault localization and corrective action to minimize energy waste.

4. Comprehensive Energy Metering and Statistics – Tracks and aggregates data on water, electricity, natural gas, and coal consumption, providing a solid data foundation for energy audits, consumption analysis, and other energy management activities. This empowers the company to make informed decisions and achieve cost reduction and efficiency gains.
