Remote Monitoring System Solution for Odor Control Equipment at Sewage Pumping Stations

Published: 2026-06-10 11:19:02

A sewage pumping station management authority has received repeated complaints from residents about unpleasant odors. To address this issue, odor control equipment has been installed at multiple pumping stations. The authority requires that this equipment be connected to the existing pumping station operation and maintenance management platform to ensure that the overall environment and treatment outcomes at each station meet expectations, while enabling intelligent and digital unified management.

To meet these requirements, WideIOT deploys industrial IoT gateways that connect to the PLCs (programmable logic controllers) of the odor control equipment. These gateways collect real-time data such as operating voltage, current, fan status (on/off), and exhaust gas concentration. The data is transmitted via 4G networks to the sewage pumping station monitoring and management platform. This enables remote monitoring, fault alarms, remote control, maintenance management, and data statistical analysis, providing digital support for the construction of unattended pumping stations.

Key Functions

1. The odor control equipment uses the Modbus communication protocol. The gateway converts Modbus to MQTT protocol for data reporting to the sewage pumping station monitoring and management platform. It also supports encrypted transmission and a security firewall to ensure data safety and reliability.

2. With features such as data resumption after interruption and automatic reconnection, the gateway can temporarily store collected data locally when the network is unstable. Once the network connection is restored, all stored data is retransmitted to ensure data integrity and completeness.

3. The system monitors real-time data including operating voltage, current, fan status (on/off), and exhaust gas concentration. When abnormal values are detected, automatic alerts are triggered, and notifications are sent to management personnel via WeChat, SMS, or email.

4. The gateway supports downlink PLC control commands, allowing management personnel to remotely start or stop the equipment and fans. This improves emergency response capabilities and work efficiency, supporting the goals of reduced on-site inspections and unattended station operation.
