Smart Water Measurement and Water-Saving Irrigation System Solution for Irrigation Districts

Published: 2026-07-03 14:53:19

In the past, irrigation within agricultural districts relied on earthen canals, which were prone to significant water loss through seepage, leakage, and evaporation. Moreover, farms farther from the water source received progressively less water, creating an imbalance between costs and benefits that frequently led to disputes. In modernized irrigation district systems, however, concrete lining, pressurized pumping stations, and integrated measurement and control gates have been widely adopted. These innovations have substantially reduced conveyance losses, ensured reliable water delivery to distant fields, and enabled precise measurement of water usage—thereby maintaining a stable balance between water costs and agricultural productivity.

To address these needs, WideIOT offers a smart water measurement and water-saving irrigation system solution based on its industrial water monitoring gateway (RTU). This solution enables digital management of pressurized pumping stations, integrated measurement and control gates, and irrigation equipment, delivering comprehensive visibility and precise control. By connecting PLCs at pumping stations and gates, irrigation equipment PLCs, and sensors such as water level gauges and flow meters, the system collects real-time equipment status and process parameters, which are then uploaded to a remote monitoring platform. From there, operation managers can view, manage, and control operations anytime, thereby improving water resource efficiency and elevating irrigation district management standards.

Key Features

1. Real-time monitoring and remote control of integrated gates – Via web browsers or mobile apps, users can view the opening status and flow data of each integrated measurement and control gate through intuitive dashboards and data reports, and can also perform remote on/off control.

2. Pumping station status overview and remote operation – The system displays the operational status of all pumping stations, including runtime conditions and electrical parameters of individual pumps, solenoid valve positions, flow rates, water pressure, and water levels. Remote control of these assets is also supported.

3. Integration with soil moisture sensors – By incorporating field moisture sensor data, the system enables precise estimation of irrigation water requirements, supporting scheduled or demand-based irrigation strategies. This significantly improves water use efficiency and reduces overall water costs.

4. Unified alarm and work order management – All facilities, including pumping stations and integrated control gates, are managed within a single platform. In the event of a malfunction, automatic alerts are sent via WeChat, SMS, or email, enabling rapid creation of maintenance work orders and timely repairs.

5. Comprehensive water usage statistics and reporting – The system generates detailed reports on water consumption across different sections of the irrigation district, allowing data queries by time period, user entity, or water type. This provides reliable data support for water-saving initiatives and a solid foundation for continuous optimization.
