Solution for Online Monitoring and Management of Urban Water Supply Pipeline Networks

Published: 2026-06-01 10:36:48

Urban water supply pipelines cover vast areas, and many of them are aging. Managers face several major challenges: First, operational data such as pressure, flow rate, and water quality are scattered across different monitoring points and are still collected manually on a periodic basis. This leads to delays and errors. Second, leaks and pipe bursts are often detected too late, resulting in a significant gap between the incident and the response. This causes large amounts of water waste and secondary damage. Therefore, water utilities need a system that can monitor the entire pipeline network in real time, send automatic alerts when abnormalities occur, and support smart maintenance — all to improve efficiency and management quality.

To address these needs, WideIOT deploys industrial smart gateways at key points across the pipeline network — such as pumping stations, valve chambers, and monitoring sites. These gateways connect to pressure transmitters, electromagnetic flow meters, residual chlorine analyzers, water quality sensors, and other field devices via serial ports or I/O interfaces. They collect realtime data on pressure, flow rate, and water quality, and upload the data to the utility's management platform via 4G or 5G. This enables online monitoring, management, control, and statistical analysis of the water supply network, providing efficient and reliable data support for water supply operations.

Key Features and Benefits

Realtime updates of key indicators such as pressure, flow rate, and water quality are displayed dynamically on the platform, offering clear data visualization.

Immediate alerts are triggered via SMS, WeChat, or email in case of sudden pressure drops, abnormal flow changes, or water quality violations.

By comparing flow and pressure data, the system helps quickly locate suspected leak areas, reducing water waste.

Daily and monthly reports are automatically generated, providing data support for pipeline renovation and operational decisionmaking.

The gateway supports remote configuration, reboot, and firmware updates, significantly reducing the need for onsite visits and improving maintenance efficiency.

With industrialgrade protection and lowpower design, the gateway operates reliably over long periods, even in harsh environments.
