IoT System Solution for Remote Monitoring of PV and Energy Storage Equipment at Communication Base Stations

Published: 2026-06-16 11:03:23

Telecommunications and network connectivity have become deeply integrated into everyday life—work, leisure, and entertainment alike—placing everincreasing demands on the operational stability of communication base stations. Thanks to China's welldeveloped power grid infrastructure, most base stations are primarily powered by the utility grid, with battery storage as backup. In remote or special areas, renewable energy sources such as diesel generators, solar PV, wind, or hydrogen are also used to supplement power supply.

In many other countries, particularly less developed regions, base stations rely heavily on diesel generation, though solar PV and energy storage technologies are gaining traction there as well. As a result, precise monitoring and management of PV and storage equipment at these sites have become critical factors affecting overall base station performance. To address this need, WideIOT offers efficient and reliable IoT solutions.

Whether in domestic or international base stations, the core components of a PV system are inverters, smart meters, and sensors, while battery banks are managed by Battery Management Systems (BMS). WideIOT's industrial IoT gateways seamlessly integrate with inverters, smart meters, sensors, BMS, and other devices, collecting realtime data and transmitting it via 5G, 4G, WiFi, or Ethernet to cloud platforms. This enables remote monitoring, alerting, management, control, maintenance, and data analytics for PV and storage equipment, helping ensure safe and stable power supply to base stations.

Key Features

Versatile Connectivity – The gateways come with RS485/RS232 serial ports and Ethernet ports, supporting data acquisition from energy devices using protocols such as DLT645, CJ188, IEC 101/103/104, and IEC 61850. They also support upstream protocols including Modbus, MQTT, IEC 104, and OPC UA.

IndustrialGrade Durability – Designed for harsh outdoor environments, the gateways feature wide operating temperature and voltage ranges, strong noise immunity, rugged construction, and low power consumption. They also support features like autoreconnection and storeandforward (data buffering during network interruptions), ensuring longterm stable operation and data integrity even in remote field conditions.

Intelligent Alerting – When the gateway detects abnormal parameters from inverters or other equipment, the system automatically triggers alarms and pushes notifications to operators via WeChat, SMS, or email. All alerts are aggregated into a centralized alarm dashboard, making it easy to quickly view fault locations, alarm frequencies, and failure distribution patterns.

Work Order Management – The platform's work order module allows users to create inspection and maintenance tasks, enabling rapid assignment and guidance for field crews. This improves response times for cleaning solar panels, replacing batteries, repairing equipment, and other routine activities. All operation logs are fully recorded for traceability.

Automated Reporting & Resource Optimization – Daily and monthly reports are generated automatically, comparing historical solar irradiation data with power generation performance. These insights support better resource planning—including personnel allocation, spare parts inventory, and logistics—to maintain reliable base station operations and optimize overall resource utilization.
