Online Monitoring and Automatic Alarm System for Gas Pipe Networks

Published: 2026-05-29 15:12:37

Urban gas pipe networks typically cover a wide area with long pipelines and numerous nodes. Under traditional management models, gas company inspectors are required to conduct regular manual inspections along the pipelines. This approach is not only laborintensive and inefficient but also struggles to detect safety hazards such as gas leaks, pressure anomalies, and damage caused by thirdparty construction activities in a timely manner. As a result, response times are severely delayed, significantly increasing the risk of major incidents.

Furthermore, data from various monitoring points – including pressure, flow rate, and combustible gas concentration – is scattered across different devices and cannot be integrated into a unified management platform, leading to data silos. Managers are unable to gain realtime visibility into the operational status of the entire pipe network. There is an urgent need for an intelligent system capable of 24/7 online monitoring of key pipe network nodes, automatic anomaly alerting, and rapid notification to relevant personnel. To address this, WideIOT provides a highly reliable IoT solution.

By deploying industrial intelligent gateways that connect to pressure gauges, flow meters, combustible gas detectors, and other devices at various pipe network nodes, the system can collect realtime data on pipeline pressure, flow rate, and combustible gas concentration. This data is then transmitted to a remote cloud monitoring platform via 4G/5G networks. In addition, the gateway is equipped with breakpoint resume and local data caching functions. Even in the event of a network interruption, data is protected from loss and is automatically retransmitted once the connection is restored, ensuring the completeness and continuity of the monitoring data.

Key Features

1. Realtime monitoring of combustible gas concentration, pipeline pressure, and gas flow rate at extraction stations, pressure regulating stations, pipe networks, and other scenarios. When data exceeds preset safety thresholds, the system automatically generates alerts and notifies relevant personnel via SMS, email, WeChat, or other methods.

2. Data integration with a cloud platform, allowing users to access information anytime, anywhere from mobile or computer devices, including:

HMI dashboards

Data reports

Equipment locations

Operational status

Process parameters

Alert frequency

Fault distribution

Maintenance work orders

3. Automatic generation of daily, monthly, and annual reports to support decisionmaking in areas such as gas consumption trend analysis and leak risk assessment. Energy consumption data can also be reported to energy management authority platforms to drive continuous improvement in energy efficiency.

4. Industrialgrade protection design – The gateway is designed to withstand extreme temperatures and resist electromagnetic interference. It supports expansion to connect PLCs, instruments, sensors, cameras, and other devices, enabling comprehensive device networking and data collection.
