Solution for Collecting DLT Electric Meter Data into a BACnet Building Management Platform

Published: 2026-05-20 11:12:46

In a large commercial building, multiple smart meters using the DL/T 645 protocol have been deployed in electrical distribution rooms. However, the building management system operates on the BACnet protocol. Since the two protocol systems are completely incompatible, a large amount of meter data cannot be integrated into the building management platform. As a result, management staff are forced to manually read meters floor by floor each month and enter the data into spreadsheets. This process is not only highly inefficient and costly but also prone to data errors, omissions, and delays.

Moreover, the management team lacks realtime visibility into electricity usage by floor, tenant, or circuit, making it impossible to perform energy benchmarking analysis or make informed decisions on energysaving optimizations. Therefore, the management urgently needs an IoT solution that can collect data from DL/T 645 meters in bulk, automatically convert it to the BACnet protocol, and seamlessly integrate it into the building management platform. This would enable centralized, realtime, and visualized energy data management.

Solution

WideIOT deploys energy data acquisition gateways in each electrical distribution room. These gateways connect to multiple smart meters via RS485/RS232 serial ports, enabling onetomany data collection of voltage, current, power, energy consumption, power factor, and other energyrelated data. The gateways then transmit the data to the building management platform over 4G wireless networks. This effectively replaces manual meter reading and enables visualized monitoring, alerting, management, and statistical analysis of building energy usage, significantly improving energy efficiency and management standards.

Key Features

The gateway is equipped with multiple communication interfaces (serial/Ethernet ports), allowing onetomany data collection from electric meters. It supports DL/T 645 to BACnet protocol conversion and enables centralized monitoring and management of voltage, current, power, energy consumption, power factor, and other data.

Management staff no longer need to visit the site regularly for meter reading. They can quickly access information on the number of meters, models, alarms, etc., across different buildings, enabling rapid statistical reporting, better maintenance planning, and improved asset management.

Alarm rules can be flexibly configured. When abnormal data is detected, automatic notifications can be sent via WeChat, SMS, or email, helping quickly locate unusual energy losses and improving energysaving management and efficiency.

The solution supports categorized statistical analysis and visual presentation of energy data. On the building’s data dashboard, users can quickly view total energy consumption, tenant energy usage, HVAC energy consumption, and more, and generate data reports for comparative analysis.

The gateway features industrialgrade design with wide temperature and voltage tolerance, strong noise immunity, and rugged durability. It also supports reconnection after network interruptions and storeandforward functions, ensuring longterm stable operation in outdoor environments and maintaining data integrity and completeness.
