IoT Solution for AGV Charging Station Data Collection

Published: 2026-05-11 11:22:02

In smart factories and automated logistics scenarios, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) are becoming increasingly widely used. A company has retrofitted its automated warehouse and introduced a new fleet of AGVs to effectively reduce labor costs and improve logistics efficiency. The project uses AGVs to automate the entire inbound and outbound process, including material transfer from automated production line pick-up points to racks, automatic transfer, stacking, and movement from racks to line-side staging areas.

A IoT system capable of real-time data collection and remote monitoring of AGVs and charging stations is required to achieve transparent, automated, and intelligent management of AGV operations and charging processes. WideIOT deploys industrial IoT gateways on both the AGV controller PLC and the charging station controller to collect real-time equipment status and core data such as battery voltage, current, temperature, and state of charge (SOC). The gateways then transmit this data wirelessly via 4G/5G to the factory management platform, enabling remote monitoring, alerting, management, control, and analytics – helping improve operational efficiency and management level.

Key Features

1. Managers can remotely view the location distribution, operating status, real-time battery level, charging current/voltage, battery temperature, and other key parameters for each AGV, with data displayed intuitively through dashboards and trend curves.

2. The system can automatically detect abnormal conditions such as overcharging, over-discharging, and overheating, and send real-time alerts via WeChat, SMS, and email – helping maintenance teams respond quickly and avoid equipment damage.

3. Based on long-term charging and discharging data (e.g., charge/discharge curves, internal resistance changes, capacity degradation trends), companies can develop predictive maintenance plans, reducing unexpected failure rates and lowering maintenance costs.

4. The system generates daily, weekly, and monthly reports on energy consumption data for each AGV, each charging station, or the entire fleet. By analyzing charging efficiency, peak/off-peak electricity usage periods, and other factors, companies can optimize their charging strategies.
