Water Treatment Plant SCADA Data Acquisition Solution

To meet the growing demand for water, a certain water treatment plant underwent capacity expansion and automation upgrades.This included expanding the intake gate and intake pipelines, constructing new sedimentation basins, pressure reduction basins, flow control valve wells, and exhaust valve wells, among other facilities.Simultaneously, a SCADA system was deployed to achieve centralized control over various PLC control stations and instrumentation, with the requirement for an IoT cloud platform to enable remote monitoring and centralized management of all equipment.In response, WideIOT provided an efficient and reliable data acquisition solution for the water treatment plant.

System Architecture

  • Field Device Layer: This layer encompasses all automated systems and instrumentation within the water treatment plant, such as the intake gate operators, flow meters and pressure transmitters on the intake pipelines, liquid level gauges in the sedimentation basins, pressure regulating valves in the pressure reduction basins, electric control valves in the flow control valve wells, and exhaust valves in the exhaust valve wells.

  • Data Acquisition Layer: Composed of WideIOT industrial intelligent gateways, this layer seamlessly interfaces with SCADA systems, PLCs, and instrumentation at the field device layer.

    It rapidly and accurately collects operational status and process parameter data from the equipment, performing initial data cleaning, conversion, and preprocessing to ensure data accuracy and usability.

  • Monitoring and Management Layer: This layer provides信息化 (information-based) support for water treatment plant management.

    Managers can remotely access and monitor production conditions at the water treatment plant anytime, anywhere, using terminal devices such as smartphones and computers, and execute relevant management operations.

    This provides a scientific basis for production optimization, equipment maintenance, and management decision-making at the water treatment plant.

Implemented Functions

  • The gateway is equipped with multiple communication interfaces, including serial ports, network ports, and IO ports, enabling real-time data collection from various equipment and instrumentation within the water treatment plant, including parameters such as flow rate, pressure, liquid level, and temperature.

    It facilitates 5G/4G connectivity to the IoT cloud platform.

  • The gateway supports various edge computing functions such as intelligent acquisition, data filtering, alarm calculation, jump triggering, formula calculation, and grouping strategies.

    After establishing equipment models and standardizing data, project R&D and construction costs are significantly reduced.

  • It supports cloud software platform access via MQTT, MODBUS, OPC UA, SQL, HTTP databases, and other methods (including WideIOT cloud configuration, self-developed cloud platforms, and IoT cloud platforms from RootCloud, Meicloud, Huawei, Alibaba, Baidu, Microsoft, etc.).

  • It provides real-time monitoring of equipment status and operational parameters, automatically generating alerts (via WeChat, SMS, email, etc.) when abnormal data is detected.

    Remote control of various devices, such as valve switching and pump starting/stopping, is achievable through smartphone and computer interfaces.

  • It offers an equipment maintenance hotline, allowing managers to stay informed about equipment operational status and maintenance conditions in real-time. Remote programming debugging and remote program uploading/downloading for PLCs at remote locations are supported, improving equipment maintenance efficiency and ensuring normal equipment operation.
