Solution for Pump Station Protocol Conversion and Data Collection

Published: 2026-04-21 11:18:42

At a factory pump station, WideIOT deployed industrial smart gateways to collect equipment parameters in real time and transmit the data via 4G to a cloud-based pump station monitoring and management platform. This enables remote monitoring, alerting, management, control, and data statistical analysis, helping improve pump station management efficiency and ensure water supply safety.

The gateway is installed in the PLC control cabinet and communicates with the Siemens PLC via Ethernet (S7 protocol). It collects real-time data from the #1 and #2 main pumps, including current, voltage, operating status, and key bearing temperature data. At the inlet channel, an ultrasonic level meter communicates with the gateway via an RS485 interface (Modbus RTU protocol), providing real-time water level data from the collection tank. The system also collects data such as instantaneous flow rate and total accumulated flow from the outlet pipeline.

The data is then transmitted securely over 4G wireless using the MQTT protocol (JSON format) to the pump station monitoring and management cloud platform. The platform offers remote access via mobile phones, computers, and other devices. Through the HMI (Human-Machine Interface), the water level in the collection tank and pump operating parameters are visually displayed to reflect real field conditions, providing managers with flexible and rich applications.

Key Features

Unattended Operation & Remote Monitoring

Operators no longer need to walk around with a logbook every hour to record readings. They can check real-time water levels, water quality, pump status, and more from their mobile phones, enabling online inspections and significantly reducing manual workload.

Smart Alerts & Automated Responses

The system has preset alert water levels. When the water level continues to rise and exceeds the threshold, the platform automatically triggers alarms and notifies managers via WeChat, SMS, and email. It also provides remote control capabilities.

Remote Maintenance & Diagnostics

When logical errors occur in the PLC program, engineers can use WideIOT’s "Device Link" to remotely upload, download, and debug the PLC program from their office computers, greatly improving maintenance efficiency.

Data Analysis & Informed Decision-Making

The system automatically generates comprehensive data reports, making it easier to detect abnormalities and inefficiencies. This supports data-driven decisions and enables a shift from "reactive repair" to "predictive maintenance."
