LoRa-Based Soil Monitoring and Irrigation Control System Solution

Published: 2026-04-14 11:10:47

In current agricultural production, environmental parameters such as soil moisture and temperature are core factors affecting crop growth. Traditional farming methods rely on manual experience to determine irrigation timing and volume, which have many limitations. With the rapid development of smart agriculture and precision farming, IoT technology is becoming increasingly widespread in agricultural irrigation. As a core technology of Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN), LoRa offers advantages such as long-distance transmission, low power consumption, low cost, and strong anti-interference capability, making it an ideal choice for field IoT monitoring and control.

System Architecture

Perception Layer:Includes LoRa soil sensors and irrigation equipment. It collects core parameters such as soil moisture, temperature, and EC (electrical conductivity) values in real time, and reads the operating parameters of irrigation equipment, ensuring comprehensive and accurate data to provide a scientific basis for irrigation decisions.

Transmission Layer:Leveraging the long-distance communication capabilities and protocol conversion functions of WideIOT's LoRa gateway, this layer ensures stable transmission of sensor data and irrigation equipment data. It adapts to complex field environments and solves communication challenges in long-distance and weak-signal scenarios.

Platform Layer:Utilizing the data processing capabilities of a cloud platform, this layer enables online monitoring, management, and remote control of multiple farmlands, helping to improve irrigation efficiency and reduce labor costs.

Key Features

Real-time monitoring of soil moisture, temperature, pH value, and other data, helping to reasonably assess soil fertility and crop growing conditions, providing a scientific basis for irrigation decisions.

Users can view irrigation time, flow rate, and other data via mobile phone or computer, and remotely start or stop irrigation equipment without on-site operation, saving labor costs.

Supports centralized management of sensors, gateways, irrigation controllers, and other devices. Real-time monitoring of device operating status (e.g., voltage, current, switch states) ensures stable operation.

The gateway features local data caching. When the network is interrupted, data is temporarily stored locally, and automatically retransmitted once the connection is restored, ensuring data integrity.
