PLC Data Acquisition and Remote Monitoring System Solution for Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Units

Published: 2026-09-28 15:36:26
As an efficient and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment technology, dissolved air flotation (DAF) units can effectively remove suspended solids, grease, colloids, and other pollutants from wastewater, while also improving treatment efficiency and reducing processing costs. They are widely used in wastewater treatment applications across the papermaking, printing and dyeing, food, petrochemical, and ecological aquaculture industries.

The working principle of a DAF unit involves generating microbubbles through a specialized process. These microbubbles attach to suspended solids, grease, colloids, and other pollutants in the wastewater—reducing their density and causing them to float to the surface, thereby achieving solid-liquid separation. A scraper system then skims the float sludge into a sludge tank, while the clarified water flows from the lower section through an overflow trough into a clean water tank, completing the wastewater treatment process. DAF units therefore need to monitor parameters such as voltage, current, and power of drive motors, dissolved air pumps, and air compressors, as well as treated water volume—ensuring that wastewater treatment operations proceed normally.

To address this, WideIOT offers a PLC-based data acquisition and remote monitoring IoT system solution for DAF units. By connecting the DAF unit PLC to WideIOT industrial smart gateways, the system enables data acquisition and real-time communication, forwarding data to local host systems or cloud platforms. This provides real-time SCADA-style monitoring of DAF unit operating status and process parameters, delivering reliable data support for fault handling, equipment control, and data analytics.

Features

Data Acquisition – Collects real-time operating parameters from the DAF unit and uploads the data to designated platform host systems via 5G/4G/Wi-Fi/Ethernet.
Remote Control – Leveraging the powerful capabilities of programmable logic controllers, the gateway can issue commands to the PLC to ensure process stability.
Remote Monitoring – Through smartphones, PCs, and other smart terminals, users can monitor and manage equipment status instantly, anytime and anywhere.
Analytical Decision Support – Utilizing big data analytics tools, the system predicts potential future issues and provides scientific, rational decision-making support.
