PLC Data Acquisition (MES IoT) Solution

Published: 2026-09-10 16:15:21
A manufacturing enterprise needs to collect data from on-site PLCs and upload it to its MES (Manufacturing Execution System). However, the PLCs have poor network adaptability, and the presence of multiple PLC brands places higher demands on the data acquisition equipment. To address this, WideIOT offers a solution based on network segment isolators combined with industrial smart gateways. This approach enables fast, stable, and secure collection of on-site PLC data, allowing external networks to access data from internal PLCs. It also provides a system platform that is simple to configure and easy to implement and maintain over the long term.
1. Addressing Multi-Brand PLC Deployment
The industrial smart gateway's built-in protocol parsing library quickly resolves the challenge of mixed-brand PLCs on site. It supports connectivity to Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider, Delta, Inovance, Keyence, Beckhoff, and other PLCs, enabling real-time data acquisition. Data is then transmitted via 5G/4G/Wi-Fi/Ethernet to cloud platforms or host-based MES systems, supporting a wide range of applications including SCADA visualization, data dashboards, fault alerting, and data analytics.

2. Addressing PLC Network Adaptability
Network segment isolators provide PLC network isolation and NAT (Network Address Translation) capabilities, resolving IP conflict issues that prevent network access. Through NAT and IP mapping, the isolator maps LAN-side IP addresses to WAN-side IP addresses—allowing devices to connect to the network without changing their original IP addresses (duplicate or conflicting IPs do not affect the upper-layer network). By assigning custom device IP addresses through the isolator, unified IP address planning is achieved.

3. Addressing Occupied PLC Communication Ports
The industrial smart gateway's serial port forwarding function provides a rapid solution when PLC communication interfaces are already in use. Users can configure the gateway to forward data from one serial port to another. This ensures that existing serial port communications continue to function normally, while other host software can communicate and interact with the device through the forwarding port.

In addition, WideIOT provides a convenient device access and remote maintenance platform for quickly configuring on-site PLC data acquisition, as well as performing remote PLC programming, debugging, and program upload/download for off-site equipment—delivering efficient and reliable management tools for production management and control.
