Online Water Quality Monitoring System Solution for Hot Water Stations

Published: 2026-07-27 11:19:49
A large industrial plant operates a hot water station with aging recirculating water treatment equipment. Prolonged exposure to high-temperature cooling water exchange makes the system highly susceptible to scale buildup, which in turn leads to blockages, overheating, and reduced heat transfer efficiency. As a result, the plant has heavily relied on manual periodic cleaning, driving up both labor and material costs over time.

The plant has recently installed a new set of descaling units that effectively replace manual cleaning. However, on-site staffing remains necessary for routine inspections and meter reading. To address this, the plant requires an online water quality monitoring system for the hot water station—one that enables remote monitoring and digital management of both the recirculating water treatment equipment and effluent water quality. The goal is to eliminate the need for manned on-site presence and manual meter reading, further reducing costs and improving operational efficiency. To meet these requirements, WideIOT offers a robust and reliable IoT solution.

Solution Overview

By deploying industrial intelligent gateways, the system connects to PLCs to collect real-time data on pump operating status (start/stop, faults), process parameters (discharge pressure, flow rate, motor current, operating temperature), and treated water quality. This data is then transmitted to the plant management platform via 4G networks, enabling remote monitoring, management, alerting, control, and statistical analysis of the recirculating water system—significantly boosting both operational efficiency and management effectiveness.

Key Capabilities

Real-time data acquisition and visualization: Continuously collects key water quality and equipment parameters—including temperature, pH, turbidity, residual chlorine, flow rate, and pressure—along with equipment status (runtime, alarms, etc.). Presents data through HMI-style graphics and reports on both PC and mobile interfaces for intuitive visibility.

Intelligent alerting with customizable thresholds: Allows preset alarm limits for all measured indicators. When data falls outside normal ranges, the system instantly pushes alerts (including anomaly location, values, and timestamp) to responsible personnel via WeChat, SMS, and email, enabling rapid response.

Data analytics and reporting: Generates daily, monthly, and annual reports along with analytical charts. Through in-depth analysis of water quality trends and equipment runtime, managers can forecast maintenance schedules, optimize descaling strategies, and drive data-informed decision-making.

Remote PLC access and control: Supports remote programming, debugging, and program upload/download for on-site PLC equipment. Additionally, the platform enables remote start/stop and parameter adjustment for pumps, valves, and other devices, improving emergency response efficiency.
