Application of Multi-Serial Port Wireless Data Acquisition Terminals in Environmental Monitoring

Published: 2026-07-17 11:03:17
Against the backdrop of ongoing efforts to advance ecological conservation and intensify pollution control, transforming environmental monitoring stations that are geographically dispersed, situated in complex terrains, and constrained by limited communication conditions has become a critical challenge in upgrading environmental supervision systems. Traditional monitoring methods—relying heavily on manual inspections and handwritten records—suffer from high labor intensity, significant costs, and low efficiency. These outdated practices can no longer meet the stringent demands of "smart environmental protection," which calls for comprehensive situational awareness, dynamic early warning, and closed-loop management. There is an urgent need for more intelligent, flexible, and stable information management solutions.

The WideIOT Multi-Serial Port Wireless Data Acquisition Terminal is purpose-built for environmental monitoring scenarios. It integrates multiple RS232/RS485 serial ports, I/O interfaces, and Ethernet ports, and supports diverse communication options including 4G, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet. Equipped with an embedded management platform, the device can simultaneously connect to various sensors, analytical instruments, and control equipment. With robust protocol parsing and data preprocessing capabilities, it enables end-to-end data flow—from acquisition and edge computing to cloud collaboration. This provides highly reliable, low-latency wireless data communication support for applications such as continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS), automated water quality monitoring stations, online noise surveillance, and solid waste transfer tracking.

Designed to industrial-grade standards, this terminal series features ultra-low power consumption, a wide operating temperature range (-40°C to 85°C), broad voltage input (DC 9–35V), and high-level electromagnetic interference resistance. Built-in hardware and software watchdog mechanisms ensure long-term stable operation in harsh environments such as open fields, industrial plants, and pipeline networks. The devices natively support industry-standard communication protocols including MQTT, Modbus, and HJ/T 212, enabling seamless integration with cloud platforms like Huawei Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, as well as regional and national environmental supervision systems. They also support encrypted data transmission and store-and-forward functionality during network interruptions, fully safeguarding the integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of monitoring data.

Application Scenarios

1. Online monitoring systems for industrial waste gas emissions. By connecting flue gas analyzers, temperature sensors, and gas flow meters, the terminal collects real-time data on key emission indicators such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter concentrations. This data is transmitted to environmental authorities' monitoring platforms, helping industrial facilities maintain compliance and enabling precise regulatory enforcement by government agencies.

2. Surface water and drinking water source quality monitoring. The terminal supports data integration from multi-parameter water quality analyzers (measuring pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, etc.). Combined with GPS positioning and scheduled reporting, it enables round-the-clock dynamic monitoring of river sections, lakes, reservoirs, and water intakes, providing a reliable data foundation for water quality assessment and pollution source tracing.

3. Urban noise and dust online monitoring. The device can simultaneously connect noise sensors, PM2.5/PM10 monitors, and anemometers. Deployed as grid monitoring nodes around construction sites, major traffic arteries, and residential areas, these terminals transmit data wirelessly to enable real-time alerts and historical trend analysis for noise and dust levels, thereby enhancing the intelligence of urban environmental management.

4. Solid waste storage and transport supervision. Working in conjunction with weighing scales, temperature and humidity sensors, and vehicle-mounted GPS modules, the terminal records real-time weight changes, container status, and transport routes during solid waste storage and transit. In the event of anomalies, alerts are triggered immediately and reported to the management platform, effectively preventing illegal dumping and secondary contamination risks, while ensuring full-chain traceability for hazardous waste management.
