Floating Pump Station Data Acquisition and Remote Monitoring System Solution

Published: 2026-06-24 11:01:19

In rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and other water bodies, traditional fixed pump stations are often constrained by factors such as large water level fluctuations and complex terrain, resulting in high construction difficulty, exorbitant costs, and lengthy project timelines. As a flexible and efficient water intake facility, the floating pump station integrates pumps, valves, pipelines, and control systems onto a floating platform, enabling automatic rising and falling with water level changes, effectively addressing many of the pain points associated with conventional pump stations.

However, floating pump stations remain afloat on the water surface year-round, making on-site operation and management extremely inconvenient, and inspection and maintenance challenging. In the event of sudden equipment failures, it is difficult to detect and address them in a timely manner, posing potential risks to water supply safety. To this end, WideIOT has launched a floating pump station data acquisition and remote monitoring system solution, facilitating unattended operation and intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M) of pump stations.

By deploying industrial intelligent gateways inside the PLC control cabinets of floating pump stations, and connecting to on-site controllers (PLCs), sensors, instruments, cameras, and other devices, the gateways can collect real-time key parameters including pump operating status, motor current and voltage, pipeline flow rate, inlet and outlet pressure, and valve positions. The data is securely uploaded via 4G/5G wireless networks to the pump station O&M management platform. Managers can remotely view the pump station's configuration interfaces, receive fault alarms, execute equipment start/stop and parameter adjustment operations, and perform remote upload/download and maintenance of PLC programs, significantly improving O&M efficiency.

Benefits Achieved

Through the platform, O&M personnel can view water levels, flow rates, equipment operating status, and alarm information in real time, and can remotely control pump start/stop and valve switching. This enables centralized monitoring and scientific dispatching, effectively shortening fault response times and reducing on-site staffing costs.

The operational data accumulated over time by the system provides a scientific basis for optimized pump station dispatching, equipment selection, and energy-saving retrofits. Data analysis enables predictive assessment of equipment health trends, allowing for the formulation of predictive maintenance plans to avoid unplanned downtime.

During flood seasons with rapidly rising water levels or in the event of equipment abnormalities, the system can automatically trigger audible and visual alarms and push notifications. Managers can remotely adjust operating parameters or initiate emergency drainage plans, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the floating pump station and guaranteeing that water supply tasks remain unaffected.

The gateways feature industrial-grade protective design, compatibility with extreme temperatures and wide voltage ranges, and support for multi-network backup, store-and-forward (breakpoint resumption), multi-center data transmission, and other functions, ensuring stable and reliable data acquisition and communication, as well as data security and integrity.
