Urban Underground Pipeline Network Visual Monitoring IoT Solution

Published: 2026-06-23 11:12:16

Industry Background

Urban underground pipeline networks encompass water supply, drainage, gas, heating, power, and communication lines, serving as the "lifelines" and "blood vessels" that ensure the normal functioning of cities. With the acceleration of China's urbanization process, the scale of urban underground pipeline networks in the country has now ranked first globally, with a total length exceeding 3.78 million kilometers. This expansion will continue in the future. The Urban Renewal 15th Five-Year Plan specifies an investment of over 5 trillion yuan in the next five years to advance the construction and renovation of approximately 770,000 kilometers of underground pipeline networks.

However, this vast scale also brings significant management pressure. The traditional model of manual on-site supervision and local management is increasingly becoming a bottleneck, constraining the safe and resilient development of cities. How to digitally, visually, and intelligently manage this massive "urban lifeline," shifting from reactive emergency repairs to proactive prevention, is a core challenge for high-quality modern urban development. To address this, WideIOT provides an efficient and reliable visual monitoring IoT solution for urban underground pipeline networks.

Solution

WideIOT industrial intelligent gateways are deployed at key nodes throughout the pipeline network (such as valve pits, pumping stations, heat exchange stations, substations, and utility tunnel compartments). These gateways feature robust industrial protocol parsing capabilities (supporting PLCs, instruments, sensors, cameras, etc.) and can interface with various data types (pressure, flow, temperature, water level, gas concentration, voltage, current, etc.). Data is encrypted and uploaded to cloud-based or local monitoring centers via 5G/4G/Wi-Fi/Ethernet, enabling remote monitoring, alerting, inspection, management, and statistical analysis, thereby promoting refined operation of underground pipeline networks.

In addition, the gateways are designed with industrial-grade construction, high reliability, and ease of deployment. They support multi-network redundancy and store-and-forward functionality, making them well-suited for the humid, dusty, and complex industrial environments of utility tunnels and manholes, ensuring real-time data transmission and data integrity.

Achieved Functions

1. Water Supply Pipeline Monitoring

Real-time collection of core data such as water supply pressure, flow rate, pump status, and water quality indicators. Automatic alerts are triggered in case of anomalies, and remote control of pumps and valves is supported. Statistical reports are generated to provide data support for pipeline inspection, renovation, and water supply dispatch optimization.

2. Drainage Pipeline Monitoring

Real-time monitoring of drainage pipeline liquid level, flow velocity, pump status, and water accumulation depth at flood-prone points. Operation and maintenance data as well as fault records are fully logged, forming standardized records that provide a basis for pipeline dredging, pump station upgrades, and drainage system optimization.

3. Gas Pipeline Monitoring

Real-time collection of operational data such as pipeline pressure, gas concentration, medium temperature, and valve status. This enables real-time monitoring and precise regulation of multiple gas stations, and provides digital support for equipment replacement, renovation, and upgrades, helping to prevent gas leakage risks.

4. Power and Communication Pipeline Monitoring

Real-time monitoring of key parameters including cable temperature, ambient temperature and humidity within conduits, supply voltage, current, power, and leakage status. Timely alerts are issued when anomalies are detected, enabling rapid countermeasures to ensure power supply safety and stability.

5. Heating Pipeline Monitoring

Real-time collection of supply and return water temperature, pressure, flow rate, and equipment operating status. Data is presented through visual configuration displays, establishing a standardized operation and maintenance management framework that enables rapid response to anomalies and ensures stable and reliable heating supply.

6. Integrated Utility Tunnel Environmental Monitoring

Real-time collection of tunnel temperature and humidity, gas concentrations (such as methane, hydrogen sulfide, and oxygen), accumulated water level, equipment power supply status, and real-time video data. This enables comprehensive monitoring and management of all pipeline network facilities, establishes digital equipment records, and facilitates optimized resource allocation.
