What Can a 4G Collector for Solar Inverters Do?

Published: 2026-06-11 13:40:44

As the installed capacity of solar PV continues to expand rapidly, remote monitoring and management of PV power plants have become a key concern for equipment manufacturers, plant owners, and operations and maintenance (O&M) providers. Among all the equipment in a PV plant, the inverter is the most critical to monitor. However, for O&M providers, the more sites they manage, the more inverters are involved, which increases management complexity and costs.

To address this, WideIOT offers a widely compatible 4G collector for solar inverters. It can collect the inverter's operating status and power generation data and report it to a remote monitoring platform via 4G networks. This enables remote monitoring, alarming, management, control, and data analysis of the PV power system, fully supporting the digital transformation of PV plant management.

The 4G collector (industrial gateway) is equipped with multiple communication interfaces, including serial ports, Ethernet ports, and USB ports. It can connect to mainstream inverter models to collect real-time key operating parameters such as power generation, DC voltage and current, AC side power, device temperature, and fault alarms. The device supports 5G/4G/WiFi/Ethernet connectivity and uses protocols like MQTT and Modbus to connect to the PV plant's remote monitoring and management platform, establishing a stable and reliable communication link to ensure data security, integrity, and reliability.

Key Features

By binding data variables, the cloud-based data dashboard can display real-time information for each inverter, including AC/DC voltage and current, instantaneous power, daily energy yield, and device temperature. It also uses graphical configurations to intuitively show the plant's power generation efficiency and energy flow.

When abnormal inverter parameters are detected, the system automatically triggers alerts and notifies management personnel via WeChat, SMS, or email. It can also create maintenance or inspection work orders within the work order system, helping guide O&M staff quickly and improving response times.

The platform generates daily and monthly reports, compares historical solar irradiance data with power generation to identify correlations, and accurately calculates the performance ratio (PR). This provides data-driven support for decisions such as panel cleaning and replacement of underperforming equipment, enabling optimal allocation of personnel, spare parts, and other resources.

The collector features an industrial-grade design with wide temperature and voltage tolerance, strong noise immunity, and rugged durability. It also supports features like auto-reconnection after network disconnection and data resumption after interruptions, ensuring long-term stable operation in outdoor environments with complete and reliable data.
