Furniture Factory MES Data Collection Solution

Published: 2026-03-24 10:59:07

A certain furniture factory has conducted digital upgrades on equipment such as planers, automatic storage systems, dust removal equipment, and fire protection systems, achieving automated control through PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). It employs WINCC human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to provide operational interfaces, facilitating easy monitoring and control of equipment status and production parameters by management personnel. Now, the factory aims to transmit data from various automated devices to the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) for centralized management and data visualization. In response, WideIOT offers an efficient and reliable data collection solution.

Solution Overview

The on-site equipment falls into two categories: The first category consists of PLCs with available communication interfaces (RS485/RS232), to which WideIOT's industrial smart gateways can directly connect for data collection. The second category includes PLCs with occupied interfaces but available HMI interfaces, where the gateway can collect data through network ports.Subsequently, the gateways uniformly connect to the workshop MES data display screen via WiFi networks, enabling functions such as data visualization, alarming, management, statistics, and analysis.

Achieved Functions

  • The industrial smart gateway features multiple serial/network ports, supporting the parsing of PLC brands such as Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider, Delta, and Inovance.

It collects equipment status and production parameters in real-time and enables internet connectivity via 5G/4G/WiFi/Ethernet.

  • By setting alarm rules, the gateway can automatically trigger alarms upon detecting abnormal parameters or equipment failures, notifying personnel through WeChat, SMS, email, etc.

These alarms are also aggregated on the MES data display screen for report visualization, facilitating rapid management and control.

  • The gateway supports various edge computing functions, including intelligent collection, data filtering, alarm calculation, jump triggering, formula calculation, and grouping strategies, thereby reducing server computational load, effectively lowering project costs, and enhancing economic benefits.

  • The MES system receives and parses the data, enabling summary and visualization of various metrics. It provides quick insights into Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), online rates, downtime rates, alarm quantities and resolution progress, as well as daily/weekly/monthly production reports, aiding in scientific decision-making.
